Obituary of Mary K. Ryder Genest
Greenville – Mary K. Ryder Genest, 95, died September 12, 2021, at the C.A. Dean Nursing Home, Greenville. She was born October 10, 1925, in Greenville, the daughter of Winfield and Freda (Beckwith) Ryder.
Mary grew up in Greenville the oldest of four children. She graduated from Greenville High School, Class of 1943, and loved to follow the Laker teams through the years. With her husband, Harry, she traveled about the country while he worked as an ironworker, making many friends during that time of their lives. In 1967, they purchased land and began building the Greenwood Motel where they met more new people who returned each ski season.
Mary is survived by her sister-in-law, Donna Hamilton Ryder; nieces and nephews, Chuck (Betty), John (Barbara), and Brian (Jana) Crossman, Scott Hanson and Terry Hanson Boone, Michael (Megan) Ryder, Raylene (Michael) Carr, and Doug (Connie) Ronco; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Mary loved her family very much and happily welcomed each new member whether by birth or marriage, into her family.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harry Genest; sister and best friend, Vella Crossman; brother-in-law, Lloyd Crossman; sister, Norma Hanson; brother-in-law, Ted Hanson; brother, C.W. “Bub” Ryder; sister-in-law, Virginia Genest Carr; brother-in-law, Raymond Carr; and nephews, Robert Ryder and Dana Ronco.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, loving caregivers at C.A. Dean Hospital and Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, September 25, 2021, at The People’s United Methodist Church, Greenville Junction, with Pastor Ashley Ewing officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot at the Greenville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to The People’s United Methodist Church, 407 Pritham Avenue, Greenville Junction, ME 04442, or the Greenville High School Athletic Department, c/o Athletic Director, 130 Pritham Avenue, Greenville, ME 04441.Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
