Obituary of Elnora Dunbar Lyford
LaGrange - Elnora Kathleen Dunbar Lyford, 98, wife of late Percy Lyford Jr., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, March 25, 2022, at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born February 14, 1924, on Valentine’s Day, in Silver Ridge, the daughter of Edwin G. and Bessie (Blank) Dunbar. She was one of 13 children and has 3 remaining siblings, Doug Dunbar, Weymouth Dunbar, and Mildred Duprey. Elnora was a hardworking Christian woman all of her life who loved the Lord and her family. She had many jobs over the years including picking potatoes when she was first married, selling Avon, Beeline fashions, Friendly Home Parties and owning a ceramic business. She was small in stature but don’t let that fool you, she was always top dog in sales and had a bit of a competitive spirit.
Elnora married Percy in 1941, and together they had 5 children. She was predeceased by Percy; a baby son at birth; son, John Lyford and his wife, Adelia, of Orneville. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Beryle Johnston and her husband, Kempton, of Greenbush, Jimmy Lyford and his wife, Gail, of Indiana, and Betty Turtlott and her husband, Ronnie, of LaGrange. She had many grandchildren who loved her dearly and in turn gave her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was the best “Nana” ever to all of them.
Up until just recently, she lived by herself and continued to cook for friends, family and church. She was well known for her delicious yeast rolls and apple pie. Elnora loved to bake and would get up in the wee hours of the morning to make sure everything came out just perfect.
She was the best Mom, Nana, and friend to many who went home to be with the Lord.
