Obituary of Elizabeth Chase Stevens
Dover-Foxcroft – Elizabeth (Chase) Stevens, more often known as Liz or Aunt Liz to those who knew her, has gone to be with the Lord on May 12, 2022, at Eastside Rehab Center in Bangor. She was born August 18, 1928, in Atkinson, Maine, the daughter of Henry and Flora (Trask) Chase. Liz graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, Maine, in 1946 and went on to nursing school, which she left before completing to marry the love of her life, Lester Stevens, whom she met at Higgins. She spent many years working alongside her husband, Lester, on their dairy farm in Dover-Foxcroft until they retired. They were recognized in 1986 as the Maine Outstanding Farm Family of the Year, and in 1998 as the Outstanding Agricultural Farm Family by the Piscataquis Valley Fair Association, among many other recognitions and awards.Following their retirement Liz spent many more years working with him in various church and volunteer organizations both in Maine and Florida. Their long-standing commitment to, love of and service towards the Dover-Foxcroft Church of the Nazarene was a significant part of her life. She loved being outside, gardening, and tending her flowers, and was an avid reader, always looking for new books to enjoy and then share with family and friends.
Liz was predeceased by her loving husband, Lester Stevens; and her siblings, Cecil Chase, Henry Chase Jr., Florence Libby, Pauline Norwood, Joyce Leavitt, Robert Chase, and Harold Chase Sr. She is survived by three sons, Arnold Stevens of Lovell, Ronald Stevens of Hermon, and Tony Stevens and his wife, Teena, of Palmyra; her daughter, Carol J. Newton and her husband, Donald, of South Paris; nine grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, Samuel, Aaron, Karry, Katie, Kiley, Matthew, and Kaitlyn; and ten great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hunter, Wyatt, River, Charlotte, Rhonan, Caedric, Lux, Adelynn and Chloe; her brother, Terry Chase and his wife, Mary Lou; and many, many much loved nieces and nephews, as well as other extended family. Many of the highlight stories that Liz would tell involved all the summers that grandchildren, nieces and nephews would spend visiting and working at the farm.
