Obituary of Galen C. Carey

Milo – Galen C. Carey, 90, husband of Connie (Russell) Carey, passed away October 24, 2016, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born June 7, 1926, in Milo, the son of Arthur B. Sr. and Elsie (Stackpole) Carey. Galen served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been employed at the B&A Railroad as a car repairman for 37 years. Galen was a member of the St. Francis and St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the J.P. Chaisson American Legion Post No.41 in Milo. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Connie, of Milo; a son, David and his wife, Laurie; five daughters, Brenda Karpowicz and her husband, James, Deborah Johnson and her husband, Stephen, Gayle Smillie and her husband, Richard, Susan Dow and her husband, Benjamin and Diane Peterson; a brother, Herbert Carey; a sister, Marilyn Blackman, and sister-in-law, Elaine Carey; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff and his "daughters" at Hibbard Nursing Home for their loving care. A committal service will be conducted 11am Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Lary Funeral Home with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery in Milo with Deacon David Denbow officiating. Friends and family are invited to share fellowship and refreshments at the J.P. Chaisson American Legion after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Galen Carey to St.Francis and St. Pauls Catholic Church, P.O.Box 193, Dexter, Maine 04930.
