Obituary of Marion "Betty" Hackett

Milo and East Millinocket - Marion "Betty" Hackett, 91, passed away on February 6, 2023, with family by her side. Betty was born September 26, 1931, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Joseph A. and Lucy E. (Mulherin) Kruck. She graduated as valedictorian, something she was very proud of, from Milo High School in the class of 1949. In June of 1958, she married John Hackett. A religious woman for over sixty years, Betty carried with her the rosary John gave her on their wedding day. She was a long time member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in East Millinocket, where she and John settled with their three children. Betty delighted in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time at the family camp (built by her father) on Boyd Lake catching perch, chatting with family, enjoying beautiful sunsets, watching and listening to the loons, and also listening to the latest goings-on on the police scanner. While her grandchildren felt she never doled out quite enough ice cream on Saturday nights and bacon on Sunday mornings (always cutting each slice in half), she made a hell of a macaroni salad and a baked ham! Betty was a lover of chocolate and Milwaukee's Best, enjoying both until the end. Betty is survived by her children, Anne Roundy and her husband, Darrell, of Jay, Joseph Hackett and his wife, Penny, of Otis, and Linda Kinney and her husband, Calvin, of Bangor; five grandchildren, Darren Roundy and his wife, Allison, of Jay, Matthew Roundy and his wife, Hannah, of Bangor, Amy Hackett and her husband, Tim, of Boston, Michelle Hackett and her partner, Scott, of Cranberry Isles, and Ryan Kinney of Bangor; and six great-grandchildren, Max and Anderson Roundy of Jay, Claire Treadwell and Natalie Roundy of Bangor, Emmett Hackett Cummings of Boston, and Brianne Hackett of Waterville. Betty has joined her husband, John, and both her parents, who predeceased her. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Marlene Walker and her staff at Total Care Solutions in Holden, Maine, who helped Betty (and her family) through her final journey in this world with grace, dignity, and love. A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at the family lot of the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
