Abbot - Janice Brown-Clemens, 83, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2023, surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She is survived by her son, Robert Brown, daughter-in-law, Tori Capasso-Brown, and grandchildren, Alyssa, Justin, and Jake, all of Massachusetts; her daughter, Lisa Brown (Kern) and grandson, Paul Kern of Maine, spouse, LeighAnna, great-grandchildren, (Dakodah, Ashleigh, Justyn) and two great-great grandchildren; her cousins, Bonnie Church, David Berube and Paula Stanvick and families; her mother-in-law, Elaine Brown; her nephew, Jason Skea; as well as her best friend of over 55 years, Judy Minor. She is also survived by her second husband Don Clemens’s children, Darrell, Deborah, Diane, spouses, and his granddaughters, Monika and Jennifer; and two great-grandchildren, Eastyn and Brielle. She was predeceased by her parents, father, George Morris, mother, Janet Roy; her granddaughter, Melissa Kern; her first husband, David Brown; her second husband, Donald Clemens; her sister, Patricia Nyberg; her brother, George Morris; her father-in-law, Chester Brown; mother-in-law, Mildred Brown-Skea; and brother-in-law, Scott Skea. Janice was a cheerleader at Methuen High School where she met her football player husband, David. She started her career at a local newspaper but was also a caretaker to many family members and then an administrator at Chapel Kindergarten & Nursery School in Methuen MA for over 30 years. She was a beach lover, a 4H member, a card player, a volunteer at MSPCA, a lover of animals and even owned horses. Janice was very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She was a swimmer, skier, a gardener, a woman of many talents. She loved to cook the holiday family meals, knitting, reading, and playing cards in her free time at home with her two cats. She was always working hard, and liked to stay busy, including helping the carpenters on home improvement projects as she owned her own tool belt, and even built a lean-to for her horse. Janice loved to travel, go on cruises, and even toured Alaska herself for a month. She was always an involved church member and started making baby sweaters and booties as well as jams and jellies for craft fairs while at Chapel. She then went on to expand her jam, jelly and pickle crafting into a thriving small business as a second career and sold that business just a few years ago. She recently joined a candlepin bowling team with her grandson Paul, exercised at Silver Sneakers and played at several different card groups per week to keep active. She was a young social 83 year old, whom everyone loved, and would do anything to help others in need whether it be a chat, a ride, a baby sweater set or a donation. Jan will be sadly missed in Massachusetts where she was born, in Florida where she lived for several years and especially in Maine where she loved the Brown family home the most and all the birds and animals that would visit the yard.
