Obituary of Virginia Jean (Libby) Sanborn

Shirley - Virginia Jean (Libby) Sanborn, 81, passed away peacefully May 29, 2023, at her home with her family by her side, after a long fought battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Portland, ME, on May 13, 1942, to Kenneth E. Libby and Verna M. (Fickett) Libby of Pownal, ME. Virginia grew up in Pownal, attending a one room school house and playing on the family farm with her sister before moving to Gray, when her father took a job working for the newly formed Maine Turnpike Authority. She then attended the Pennel Institute in Gray and graduated as the Salutatorian of her class in 1960. Ginny was a very smart individual and took great pride in being the best that she could be, no matter what life brought her. After graduation she moved to Boston to attend New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and earned her Registered Nurse (RN) diploma in 1963. Married in 1965 to Richard Enright, they then moved back to Maine and settled in Clinton, where she took a job at Mid Maine Medical Center in Waterville as an ER, PAR, Renal Dialysis Unit, Med Surgery and Charge Nurse. In 1973 they moved once again, and she found the location of her dreams in the Greenville area. She was employed at the CA Dean Hospital in Greenville from 1973 until 1992, doing most every job an RN could possibly think of doing. She then worked for the American Red Cross as a charge Nurse until her retirement in June of 2004, but continued per diem for several years to follow. Ginny was a lover of nature in every respect. She enjoyed hiking, gardening, skiing, camping and fishing, as well as sewing and a multitude of crafts. Every year she made Christmas and Easter dresses for her two granddaughters and always found time to be involved in their lives. In retirement, her adventurous spirit took her on a road trip to Alaska as well as a trip to Africa with her missionary group to assist with medical care for the underserved. She dedicated her time and life to caring for, and doing for others, whenever there was a need. If she wasn’t busy helping someone else, she could be found working in her beautiful flowers at home or playing an organ for one of many churches. Virginia is survived by her son, Shawn Enright and wife, Andrea, granddaughters Lauren and Riley, all of Skowhegan; son, Dana Enright of Shirley; sister, Barbara (Libby) Cook and husband, William, of Bangor; as well as a beloved nephew, niece, their children, cousins, and countless wonderful friends. Virginia will be sadly missed by all the people that she cared for and whose lives she touched. She was an extremely loving and compassionate person who always had the well being of others in mind and was a devoted mom, loyal friend and of strong moral character and faith. A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held Saturday June 10th at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ - Union Evangelical UCC, 2 Moosehead Lake Rd, Greenville, with a reception to follow at the church’s fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to take a moment to think of or care for someone, donate time to a community service, or make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in Ginny’s memory. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Lary Funeral Home, Dover. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared at www.laryfuneralhome.com for the family.
