Parkman - Elizabeth "Betty" (Beaver) Davis, age 88, peacefully passed away on July 26, 2023, in Orono, with her daughter Kathy by her side. She was born on October 20, 1934, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, but moved to Parkman, Maine, early in her childhood, where she spent her entire life. On June 25, 1953, Betty married the love of her life, Omar Davis, and together they built a beautiful family, celebrating 64 years of marriage. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and adoring Grammy, always putting her family first. Betty was known for her strong work ethic, and worked at Hardwood Products, Hathaway Shirt Factory, Goulette's IGA, and KC's Country Store. She approached each job with diligence and dedication, and she was a valued employee wherever she went. She was an excellent cook, and her desserts, biscuits, and yeast rolls were nothing short of legendary. There was no such thing as being too full when Betty was around; she always believed everyone needed "just another sliver" of whatever she had cooked. She would claim to have no secret ingredients, but perhaps the way she removed the "squizzels" from eggs played a part in making her cooking extra special. If you didn't find Betty in the kitchen, she could be found in her flower and vegetable gardens, picking weeds like a seasoned pro and harvesting her crops. She had a green thumb that even Mother Nature would envy. Her nurturing nature extended beyond cooking and gardening, as she could often be spotted chasing her grandkids around the lawn with the speed of a gazelle. And when it came to playful antics, Betty had an arm that could rival any major league pitcher when she was throwing a snowball or a horseshoe. She also had a unique way of keeping the men in her family in line, resorting to her trusty shoe or wet dish rag when the situation called for it. She earned herself quite the reputation in cast iron skillet throwing competitions, proudly displaying her blue ribbons from country fairs. Her ability to do and say the unexpected was one of her superpowers, and she wielded it with love and laughter. She was always full of surprises, making every visit a memorable adventure for those lucky enough to know her. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, and the memories we've shared will keep us smiling through both tears and laughter. Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Davis) Starbird and her husband, Jere, of Sangerville, and her son, Milan Davis of Parkman. She will be fondly remembered by her sister, Florence Giles of Dexter, as well as her brothers-in-law and their wives, Wade and Mary Davis, Wayne and Emily Davis, and sister-in-law, Elaine McKenzie. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Barrett and Hillary Starbird (Carter & Reese), Brock and Kari Starbird (Kamren), Kasey and Jody Knowles (Jacob, Grady, and Emmy), Jessica and Justin Spack (Elaina, Caraline, and Jameson), and Darbie Davis (Everett). Additionally, Betty leaves behind a dear and special friend, Karol Curtis, whose companionship was a source of comfort and enjoyment. Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Omar, and her daughter, Debby, as well as her father, Emery Beaver, her mother, Ernestine (Bradford) Philbrick, step-father, Rupert Philbrick, sister, Marion Strom, and brother, Rupert Philbrick. A graveside service will be held on August 5 at 11 am at Pingree Center Cemetery in Parkman, with Pastor Steven Dean officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
