Dover-Foxcroft and Bangor – Doris Gammon Coy, 77, left this earth to join her heavenly family on August 24, 2023. She was born December 13, 1945, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, the daughter of Dora and Thomas Gammon. Doris graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1964, and from the University of Maine, Class of 1978. She was known for her servant’s heart. Doris worked for many years as a dental hygienist at Family Dentistry in Dover-Foxcroft and then retired from JW Clark Dental Studio in 2009. She was a member of the United Baptist Church for 70 years, serving in many capacities and served as a trustee at Foxcroft Academy for over 18 years. Her favorite place on earth was Sebec Lake. Doris enjoyed painting, quilting, traveling, and spending time with her family. She will truly be missed. Doris was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Coy; a brother, Gene Gammon; and two sisters, Marjorie Eldridge and Margaret Poulin. She is survived by two daughters, Lynne Coy-Ogan and her husband, Robert, of Bangor, and Karen Coy-Burbank and her husband, Ken, of Bonney Lake, WA; a son, Scott Coy and his wife, Jody, of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister, Helen Brown; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Daniel, Abigail, Sarah, Dylan, Carter, Julia and Jillian; and eight great-grandchildren, D.J., Sophia, Aubrie, Iceis, Camden, Scarlett, Reece, and Violet. The family sends heartfelt thanks to Beacon Hospice and the Sylvia Ross Home for their compassionate care and support during the past few months. A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Discovery Bible Church (formerly the United Baptist Church) in Dover-Foxcroft with Pastor Chris Viera officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Rural Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas and Doris Coy Scholarship at Foxcroft Academy, 975 West Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
