Obituary of Angeline (Elwell) Strait
Sherman and Dover-Foxcroft - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of the most wonderful Mom, Grammy, and GG, Angeline Strait. Mom passed from her life on earth into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2023.
Growing up through the depression, Mom learned to be thankful for the smallest of life’s pleasures. She always found the positive side of the most difficult situations.
Mom loved her Lord and her family. She was a member of the Island Falls Baptist Church until health concerns forced her to move from Sherman to Dover-Foxcroft to be with her daughter and son-in-law. The Bible brought her daily peace and comfort.
She graduated at the age of 18 from Aroostook State Normal School (now known as the University of Maine at Presque Isle). In 1977, she proudly earned her four-year degree from the University of Maine at Orono. In the late 1940s, she began her teaching career in a two-room schoolhouse in Stacyville, ME. From there, she enjoyed her years teaching in Benedicta, Island Falls, and after 25 years, ended her career in Sherman Mills. Through all of these years, she cared for every child as if they were her own. Upon retirement, she, Dad, and my brother built a lovely home ”over the road”, but the old house beckoned, and they moved back to their original home. Mom always looked forward to canning her vegetables and spent part of her summers tending her garden so there would be plenty of fresh vegetables for the winter months. We also had plenty of fresh apples cut up, frozen, and ready to make a delicious pie.
Angeline “Angie” was predeceased by her parents, Herman, Sr. and Bernice (Morgan) Elwell, husband, Millard, Sr. and son, Millard, Jr. “Sonny”. She was also predeceased by seven siblings: John (Pearl and Jerry); Avis (Harry Lewin); George ”Carl” Carlton; Audrey (Irven Long);Herman Jr. “Junior”, (Roxie); Merritt (Rinda), and Emma “Betty” (Jack Groves). She is survived by her daughter, Sherri and son-in-law, Ashley Jackins; granddaughter, Lindsay; grandson, Matthew; and precious great granddaughter, Lydia; and several nieces and nephews.

At this time, there will be no visiting hours. There will be a spring interment with a gathering afterward. Information regarding this will follow at a later date. Please wear bright colors as Mom always looked for the brighter side of life.
Heaven has gained an incredible angle. Until we meet again, Mom, you will forever be my angel on earth.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from when cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.Psalm 121:1-2 (KJV)
