Obituary of Delores "Dolly" Stevens

Dover-Foxcroft and Conway, South Carolina - Delores Mae McLaughlin Stevens, who many knew her as Dolly passed away at the age of 90, on January 17, 2024. She went to heaven to see Jesus and many family members along with close friends who have passed before her. Dolly was born January 1, 1934, in Augusta. She was married to Robert Norman Stevens Sr. on August 11, 1951, for 69 loving years. Dolly started life by being a caregiver to her mother and siblings. She became a stay-at-home mother herself. In adulthood, she became a devoted Christian and truly found God. Although Dolly never had a monetary position her vast reaching of voluntary work would challenge any paid position. Some of her volunteer work covered things like being a Sunday school teacher, woman’s leader, prayer warrior, choir positions, and pretty much all aspects of the church. Once that was accomplished, she went on to volunteer at the Crisis Center and even started the Alpha Crisis Center in Sanford. With all this time being provided in volunteer work she at no time ever changed the status of importance of family being first and foremost even down to spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dolly is survived by her four remaining children, Richard Stevens and his wife, Gay, of Conway, South Carolina, Mark Stevens of Harrington, Robert Norman Stevens Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Cheryl Melcher and her husband, Steve, of Brewer; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, and daughter, Cathy. A graveside committal service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 17, 2024 in the family lot of the Pine Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
