Obituary of Mathias "Ty" C. Poulin

Hermon – Mathias “Ty” Craig Poulin, 80, passed away February 4, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor. He was born June 9, 1943, in Dexter, the son of the late Mathias J. and Margaret (Edgerly) Poulin. Ty spent the early years in Sangerville, Dexter, and Dover-Foxcroft. When he was 4 years old, his father joined the newly created U.S. Air Force. Until his father retired in 1965, Ty had a very adventurous childhood, experiencing many different places such as Fort Knox KY, Long Island, NY, Colorado Springs, CO, St. John, Newfoundland, Scott AFB, IL, and San Antonio, TX. Ty graduated in 1964, from San Antonio College, majoring in Business Administration. After this achievement, he decided to make a brief trip back to his birthplace to visit with relatives. On this fateful trip, one of his relatives introduced Ty to one of their friends, who happened to be Candron “Candy” Jean Wiley. Her beautiful smile captured his heart; even though Ty had to go back to Texas, he soon came back to Maine and eventually married Candy on Dec. 17, 1966. Together they settled in Hermon, and Ty worked for Sears, New England Telephone (Verizon), and Penobscot County Registry of Deeds. Ty had many hobbies which included going to car shows with his 1964 GTO, riding his Harley, and flying model planes. He loved “the old West” and was also a huge history buff. Everyone remembers Ty as very generous and jovial; he always went the extra mile to give someone a smile. Ty was predeceased by his parents, Mathias and Margaret; sister, Margaret Jean Poulin Curtis; and love of his life, Candron Jean Wiley. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Emily Poulin Rose and her life partner, Alan Gene Huffman; granddaughters, Cassandra and Morgan Rose; a special friend, Mary Faloon; brother-in-law, Leigh Wiley and his wife, Edie Vose; brother-in-law, Brian Wiley and his wife, Martha; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside memorial service will be held in the family lot of the Townhouse Cemetery, Sangerville, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Bangor or Waterville Humane Society. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
