Brownville - George W. Eddy, passed peacefully after a short illness on March 12, 2024, with family and friends by his side at NLEMMC, Bangor.  He was born February 26, 1951, in Dover-Foxcroft, the oldest child of Clifton “Kip” and Lois (Hobart) Eddy.  George grew up in East Dover and graduated from Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1969.  During his time at FA, George was a lineman for the Ponies football team and played during their All New England Championship win in 1967. He was also active with the track team and won a state championship in the discus throw.  After graduation, George enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably on the USS Speary and USS Dewey as a gunner’s mate.    He would often share that the scariest day of his life was August 29, 1972, when he was discharged from the Navy and grabbed a chain saw and headed for the woods to work back in Maine. This experience eventually led him to start and manage his own wood-harvesting businesses in various incarnations over his career.  Additionally, he and his adoring wife for 39 years, Harriet, owned and managed The Land Camping Area on the banks of the Pleasant River in Brownville, where they enjoyed the company of many happy campers over the years for story telling, cookouts, weddings, musical performances, and memorial services to departed friends and family.  George is survived by his wife, Harriet MacDonald Eddy; his siblings, Roger Eddy, and Penny Cote and husband, Daniel; his children, Beverly “Buffy” Goldsmith and husband, Cameron, Charles Eddy and wife, Mindy; stepsons, John, Rob, and Will Boyle; grandchildren, Devin, Miranda, Kaci, Thomas, Jacob, Audrey, Veronica, Jack, Ashlyn, Caroline, and Zlata; and great-granddaughter, Oakleigh Rose.  He is further survived by special friends, Mary Dunham and Albion P. Ferrell.  A memorial service for George will be held on August 24, 2024, at the Land Camping Area in Brownville.  George did want the following sentiment shared upon his eventual passing, and so it is presented here: “I have lived a great life, and now I have died.”  Godspeed, Buster!
