Obituary of Harold W. Hanson
Milo - Harold Welden Hanson, 96, passed away April 2, 2024, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born September 6, 1927, in Bradford, the son of Welden and Erdene (Huntington) Hanson. Harold attended Bradford schools, and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute. He also graduated with distinction from the University of Maine with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi honorary scholastic societies. Harold was a past master and member of the Masonic Order in Charleston, and a past President of New England Railroad Club. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1953, upon graduating from the University of Maine he became employed by the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. He served as an Assistant Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Chief Mechanical Officer, and at the time of his retirement in 1987 he was a Vice President in charge of the maintenance of the railroad.
Harold attended the Park Street United Methodist Church in Milo, where he served as a trustee. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler, and golfer who took pride in maintaining his home in Milo and his camp at Schoodic Lake. Harold could be enthusiastic or stubborn or arbitrary at times, but he always had his down home charisma.
Harold was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Jean (Amero) Hanson; his son, Alan Hanson; and his sister, Joan Leathers. He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Goding; daughters, Anne M. Folster, and Karen J. Hanson and Richard Dee; son, David Hanson and wife, Sandy; Papa to nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Harold and Jean Hanson to the Park Street United Methodist Church, P.O.
