Obituary of Michael W. Cookson, Jr.
Dover-Foxcroft- Michael William Cookson, Jr., 83, passed away December 13, 2016, at Togus VA Medical Center, after complications of COPD. He was born November 26, 1933, in Dexter, the son of Michael W. Sr. and Gladys M. (White) Cookson. A Korean War Veteran, Michael was a dairy farmer for over 35 years. He also worked in the woolen mill, was a logger, and a farm machine mechanic at Harvey Farm Equipment until retirement. He was a very hard worker, often holding three jobs. Over the years, he has enjoyed working and spending time with his family and many friends.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years this past July, Joanne (Hichborn) Cookson; his children, Michael Cookson III, Joanne Cookson, Laurie Bennett and her husband, Russell, Darlene O’Connor, and Earl Cookson; grandchildren, Angela Gallagher and husband, Sheehan, Ashlyn Peterson and husband, Eric, Zachary Bennett, and Henry Zahtilla; great-grandchildren, Parker and Treyden Gallagher, and Lainey Peterson; sisters, Eunice Cabell and Eva Haggins; brother, Frederick Cookson and wife, Karen; and several nieces and nephews, special thanks to nephew, Brian Cookson, and niece, Peggy Cookson Fogg, for their support. He will be remembered by many dear and special friends including, Harry Hatch, Benny Perkins and family, Sean and Sandra O’Donnell and family, and all his friends through the years who made an important impact on his life. He was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Cindy G. Cookson; parents, Michael Sr. and Gladys Cookson; and brothers Roland, Larry, and Norman Cookson.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be conducted in the spring at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
