Greenville – Charles B. Boothby, Charlie or Butch as he was known, was born on August 26, 1945 and died on July 27, 2024. He grew up in Limington, Maine on the family dairy farmand after graduating from Bonney Eagle High School he continued the family tradition of farming, enjoying showing his Holstein Dairy cattle as a 4-H member and also later as an adult. He was a lifelong lover of animals, often naming his Holstein heifers after people he knew, particularly giving them girls’ names that he knew from Camp Moy-Mo- Dayo. He not only loved his cattle, but also his many dogs, including Spencer and Lilly. Butch loved hunting and snowmobiling and was a long-time member of the Limington Crankers Snowmobile Club. Friends would say he could just get off his snowmobile, walk up to a few trees and then tell them where they were and which way they needed to go—and, he would be right! In his early years he was an avid deer hunter and roamed Moody’s Mountain following after his dad Bors, where numerous bucks over 200 pounds were shot. He would often tell his friends when hunting to meet at the ‘hellhole’ ‘sawdust pile’ or the ‘blowdown’. He knew every inch of that mountain. In his later life he developed an interest in outdoor life and sports photography, becoming quite accomplished. Many might say he became famous at these events - the referees might use the term “infamous” since he often loudly disagreed with their calls! His love of nature and animals eventually led him to the Moosehead Lake Region where he lived for the last 20+ years of his life in Monson, Milo and, at the end, in Dover-Foxcroft.He loved promoting the Greenville area, citing its natural beauty and scenic vistas, while attending festivals and special events. Additionally, he enjoyed being involved in the Dover Foxcroft community and surrounding towns, and one could find him often attending the social luncheons and dinners held; as well as offering friends' rides to and from the various gatherings. He called himself Ambassador to the Moosehead Lake Region and distributed brochures and other materials for the Chamber of Commerce. He came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior and that made all the difference, although he still needed to work on his patience! Outspoken and direct, but with a kind heart and a desire to help. Whether you knew him as Charlie or Butch, his memory will always be with his friends. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
