Obituary of Doris M. Gregory

Waterville – Doris “Dot” M. Gregory, 91, passed away December 28, 2016, at an Augusta nursing home. She was born December 3, 1925, in Waterville, the daughter of Thomas and Sadie (Poulin) Tetu. She married Erwin “Greg” Gregory May 25, 1957. Greg predeceased her on July 5, 1986. Doris worked at C.F. Hathaway shirt factory for 25 years. She attended Notre Dame Catholic Church in Waterville, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. During her lifetime she made countless friends. Doris was energetic, independent and most of all fun. If you didn’t have a good time when you were with Doris, it was your own fault. She had a “tell it like it is” attitude so you’d better be prepared. Doris was always ready for an adventure and shared countless good times with her dear friend, Rita Roy. She enjoyed attending the sporting events of Rita’s grandchildren. She loved to dance and as she put it, “liked a little bit of everything.” In spite of her challenge with macular degeneration, she lived alone until July, 2014, at which time she moved to Woodlands Senior Living in Waterville. She was grateful to her neighbor, Jim Trenholm, who assisted her for many years with groceries, appointments and numerous other tasks to allow her to keep her independence. She was also appreciative of her childhood and lifelong friend, Pearl Sumner and husband, Jerry, for their support and caring over the years. Doris is survived by several nephews, nieces, step-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Frances Tetu of Skowhegan. In addition to her husband Greg, Doris was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Leo, Roger, Norman, and Ralph Tetu; and her step-daughter, Linda Westbrook. A graveside service will be conducted at the family lot in Greenlawn Cemetery, Clinton, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Guilford. Condolences may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
