Greenville- Carolyn R. “Callie” Muzzy of Indian Hill, Greenville, passed away March 5, 2017, after a series of sporadic and complicated illnesses. She was born July 31, 1936, in Greenville, the daughter of Lawrence O. Rowe and Phyllis (Frost) Rowe. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2003. Callie graduated from Greenville High School in 1954 and several short weeks later was wed to Bill and moved to Indian Hill Farm. Callie soon became one of the Farm’s most prominent personalities. She immediately learned to wear multiple hats and juggle many balls. The Farm was different then; there were overnight guests to prepare for, farm crew to feed, cleaning and more cleaning, and caring for those already weary from those tasks. Callie and Bill went on to operate Indian Hill Farm and its dairy, supplying milk to the Moosehead Lake area. In 1961 the family built Indian Hill Motel which was operated by Callie and her mother-in-law (Elaine) until 1991, providing warm beds and a great view to Greenville visitors. In the early 1970s Callie supported Bill in ending the farming business and starting “Indian Hill Construction”. In 1978 she gave Bill her support again when she and he started the “Indian Hill Trading Post” across the street from their family home. Callie cooked and cooked…her baked goods were special and always in short supply. Callie was always cleaning something; a motel room, the large farmhouse, or the mess her kids left behind. She frequently was called upon to fit in express runs to Monson to deliver milk, go to the Guilford Farm to pick up cans of milk for processing in the dairy, or pick up parts down river for a broken hay baler or bull dozer. Callie was busy, but never too busy to be friendly and caring of anyone she came into contact with. Callie also managed to start her own crew, naming them Matthew, Mark and Luke. She was fiercely loyal to her sons and her husband, was happiest when they were around her and was relentless in finding ways to avoid saying no. She was outnumbered by the boys and men on Indian Hill and more than once could have easily thrown in the towel for a more peaceful and normal life. Her intense love for those people and her commitment to family would never allow such a thing to happen. Callie leaves her family and friends with memories that will be repeated over and over again…how lucky we all are to have been part of that. Callie is survived by her sons and their families, Matthew (with children, Jenna and Jake), Mark and Cheryl (with children, Maren and Tyler), Luke and Laurie (with children, Susan and John); Jenna’s husband Aric Overgaard, Maren’s husband, Chuck Mason, Tyler’s wife, Jessie (Warren), Susan’s Fiancé, Todd Martin, John’s girlfriend, Ali Kirschner, a sister, Edith (and Richard) Gould of Greenville, a brother, Larry (and Frances) Rowe of Greenville, brother-in-law, David Muzzy of Falmouth, great grand children, Liam and Nola Mason, Owen and Ethan Overgaard, Mya and Violet Muzzy, a special niece, Lisa Cantara, a special cousin, John Webber and Callie’s cat, Trapper. Callie loved them all and they loved her. Visiting hours for Callie and her family will be from 4:00 – 6:00pm on Friday, March 10, 2017,at the Union Evangelical Church in Greenville. A memorial service in celebration of Callie’s life will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Union Evangelical Church in Greenville with a reception following at the Bartley Event Center on Pritham Avenue in Greenville. In lieu of flowers, Callie’s family requests that donations be made in her memory to C.A.
