On Monday, January 22nd, I wrote the following to Bill: "Dear Bill, It was only last night that I found Dorothy's obituary online, and I am so very sorry to have learned about her passing. Please know that you and your family have my deepest sympathy. I feel lucky to have met and known Dorothy, even though we didn't have the opportunity to visit together very often, since my family and I live in New York and you and your family live in Maine.
I will always cherish my last visit with Dottie and you at your home a few years ago, when I drove up north, and visited both of you for the day. Dottie made a wonderful lunch for the three of us and we spent some quality time together; sitting at the table for a long time, sharing pictures and thoughts about our common ancestry in Maine, as second cousins. I'm sorry we lost touch after our last visit. When my brother, David, and I first met both of you, we were lucky enough to meet you at Dottie's Restaurant. I am including the picture David took of Dottie, you, and me.
May the Good Lord comfort you and bless you and your family with loving memories, Cousin Nancy, my husband Peter, and family in Cornwall, NY (22 Hazen Street)."

It took me a while to gain the courage to actually write some words of condolences..I wanted to call...but what can you say..other than I am so sorry. We are sorry that we couldn't be in Maine with everyone this weekend. And sorry that Dottie passed. But we are so grateful that we got to spend time with her and family last summer over her birthday week. We are so grateful that Dottie has been a part of our life. She always made us feel welcomed and even more than that, we feel like part of the family. We are so saddened by our loss...of a mom, a friend, a grandmother, a wife, a loved one. Thinking of all of you. With love and hugs.
Michele and Buster.

Much love to Dottie's entire family and circle of friends. I'm very blessed that my son was able to meet Dottie and we will cherish our cookbook with a personal message always. My grandmother was a huge fan of Dottie's Restaurant and we spent a lot of time there on school vacations. May you find peace and comfort in the love that Dottie spread through out the area.

Bill, Michelle and all of Dottie's family: I was taken aback when I heard of Dottie's passing. She was such a kind and lovely lady. I have many fond memories of Dottie, not only at the restaurant, but because Michelle and my daughter Robin grew up together on the Back Road in Abbot. She always welcomed Robin into her home with open arms. I hope that the many happy memories that you all have shared over the years help to sustain you during this difficult time. She will be missed. Please accept my condolences, along with Robin's.

So sorry to hear of Dottie's passing. We went back quite a ways. Dottie & my mother, Dorothy, were very good friends. Then I worked with Charlotte a lot. Dottie was a lot like her Mom, I think. Sure do miss the restaurant.
Each of you remember good times. That keeps you going, I know. I will be praying for each of you.
Remember she is sitting with God The Father. He has gained one more Angel.
My love to each of you.

While I was the traffic manager at Hardwood Products, salespeople would take me lunch at Dottie's. Usually after one piece of pie for desert, they all wanted to come back and some would order their pie first to make sure they got a piece. I was starting to think they coming up to have the food and pie instead of see me. She was a very nice lady.
