Obituary of Brian J. Hackett

 

Abbot – Brian J. Hackett, 81, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2017 at his home. He was born March 9, 1936 in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, the son of Bernard and Ellen (Coyle) Hackett. He shared many fun stories of growing up on a farm, working at Gormley’s, as well as being a conductor on the double decker buses in England. He emigrated from Ireland with his wife settling in Huntingdon, Quebec, where he made many lifelong friends. He was active in the local Legion Hall as well as in the Knights of Columbus. He moved several more times advancing his career – North Carolina, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and finally settling in Maine. Brian had a great love for his family and appreciated time spent with them. He had a passion for yardsaling and golf, and enjoyed a good game of cribbage and a nice scotch.

In addition to his loving wife of 61 years, Winnifred M. (Farrell) Hackett, Brian is survived by five daughters, Suzanne Wilbur and her husband, Harvey, Siobhan Ross and her companion, Glen Rowe, Maureen Glidden and her husband, Peter, Marie Schmiedlehner and her husband, Paul, and Kathryn “Kate” Leland and her husband, Tim; four brothers, Neil and wife, Rosetta, John and wife, Philomena, Donald and wife, Margaret, and Gerard and wife, Eileen Hackett; sister, Marie and husband, Jimmy Maguire; 13 grandchildren, Christopher, Adam, Brian, Silas, Geneva, Marissa, Brendan, Ryan, Olivia, Nick, Cameron, Emmitt, and Sean; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, Plunkett Hackett.

A celebration of Brian’s life will held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Masonic Lodge in Guilford. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
