Obituary of Richard D. Bessey

 

Willimantic - Richard D. Bessey, 85, passed away at his home, January 13, 2018.  He was born September 13, 1932, in Willimantic, the son of Arthur and Thelma (Davis) Bessey.  Dick worked for Great Northern Paper Co. for 37 years as a scaler, registered land surveyor, and road supervisor.  He was very proud that he was instrumental in the layout and construction of the “Golden Road”. He also owned and operated a sawmill for a time in the early 60’s.

Dick was a lover of the outdoors. Shooting, hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes.  He also spent many hours tinkering in his garage.

Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ann (Goodridge) Bessey; two sisters, Marilyn Buchanan, and Prudy Turner and her husband, Fred; three children, Sue Beaulieu and her husband, Steve, Skip Bessey and his wife, Heather, and Kim Bowring and her husband, Steve. He also leaves six grandchildren, Chris, Erick, Leslie, Brock, Stephanie and Shannon, 7 and 9/10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Josephine Bessey; and several nieces and nephews.  He will be remembered by many special friends, including long-time friends, Bob and Bev Roberts.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, George and Chuck; a granddaughter, Nikki Beaulieu; and a brother-in-law, Jim Buchanan.
