Merriam-Webster defines "character" as "The group of qualities that make a person different from others". John Sr (dad always called him 'big John'... from John Jr.) will always be remembered as having 'character'; a big personality, being well rounded and a very interesting guy. He will certainly be missed by all who know him. Our condolences to the family.

I am saddened to hear that John that passed. He has created throughout the years good stories, laughs and memories. I can still hear the sound of ol Blue coming up the hill. As he passes my house, there is John, with another load, with a big wave and a toot on the horn, doing what he loved to do. John was a great guy and an admirable man. Although ol blue will still go by, when I wave, I will be thinking of memories of John. He will be greatly missed.
My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the Bishop family - Jean, Joni, John, Jim, Jackie and their families. Rest in peace my friend.

My heart breaks hearing the news of John's passing! All of my early memories of Maine all ways contained John and the Bishop family. Then after moving to Me. we were able to have many new memories with John and Jean, such a loving couple with a passion for enjoying everything life had to offer.
John passed his strong values, hard work ethic, great love of friends and family, and love of everything outdoors on to his greatest accomplishment in his life, his family! When I think of John, I will think of all his stories and adventures that he and my father (Kendall) had, him showing off his wood piles (it's a Me. thing), fishing, plowing, some fun dinners and trips together and him riding around his favorite town, La. Our love and condolences go out to the entire family and our family was so fortunate to have John in our lives!
Love,
Bemis / Adams family

To the Bishop Family,
I am truely sorry to hear about John. He was a wonderful man and admired by many. I have a lot of good memories of sitting up on top of the hill looking down at the pit watching John and the boys work. My grandson would take his “Tonka Trucks” up there and work the gravel and rocks just like he saw the workers doing. When we see them stop to take a break we would go down and John would always take the time to talk with us. These are memories that I will have forever. Keep your good memories of John in your heart and it will help you through this difficult time. Sending prayers to the family.

So sorry to hear of Johns passing. Good memories of the family at schoodic lake. He was quite remarkable and so down to earth. I saw him a year or so in the hospital after he had a stroke and the next day on my way to visit my mother he was out mowing the lawn. That's the way he operated. He also gave me a few tips at the slots. Thinking of all of you.

Dear Jean, John Joni, Jimmy and Jackie.
I was so sorry to hear that John has passed away. He was a good buddy of mine and like a father to me. I learned a lot from him and have so many good memories of time spent at Schoodic Lake and Willy's Dam Camp. John was a successful businessman though I remember a stranger asking him what he did for work and John answered, "I tend the dump in Milo." That was John - modest, down to earth, and not one to boast.
I know that above all he loved all of you.
With deepest sympathy
Randy MacDonald
