Obituary of Henry E. Whalen

Dexter - Henry E. “Mickey” Whalen, Jr., after a long illness, passed peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born November 10, 1931, in Dexter, the son of the late Dr. H. Edward Whalen, MD and Floreda Whalen. 

 

Mickey served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received while attached to the First Marine Division as a Hospital Corpsman in 1953. He was member of American Legion, Korean War Veterans and the DAV. He worked for 34 years for Darling’s Auto Parts in Dexter and Dover-Foxcroft and retired in 1994.

 

He married his beloved wife, Jean, December 26, 1953. They had three children, Kevin and wife, Donna, Karen Ellis and husband, Gary, and Lisa Clingman and husband, Jeffrey.  He leaves four wonderful grandchildren, Emily Whalen, Josh Whalen and wife, Taylor, Kyle Heney, and Chris Heney and wife, Brianna; a great-granddaughter, Joslyn Whalen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Robert Whalen, one sister, Barbara Brown, and an infant daughter, Debbie Jean.

 

At his request there will be no visitations. A military graveside service in the family lot of Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, will be held in the spring for family only. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Condolences may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
