Obituary of Bernard E. Beckwith
Shirley and Dover-Foxcroft- Bernard E. Beckwith, 87, husband of the late Janet Marie (Carignan) Beckwith, passed away peacefully May 9, 2018, at home, surrounded by family. He was born January 23, 1931, in Shirley, the son of Norman E. and Reine E. (Brackett) Beckwith. Bernard attended Shirley and Rangeley schools. He worked in the logging industry as a subcontractor for Great Northern Paper Co. all his life until his retirement in 1995. Bernard was very involved in the town government of Shirley, serving as a school board member and a selectman. His greatest enjoyment was spending time in the summer at the camp he built in Dallas Plantation with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other close family.
Bernard is survived by his son, Norman G. Beckwith and his wife, Geneva (Ward); two daughters, Carol McBrierty and her husband, Bruce, and Jeannette Morrill and her husband, David; 10 grandchildren, Misty, Bruce Jr. Tracy, Stephanie, Sherri, Marty, TJ, Jody, Brian, and Ian; 13 great-grandchildren, Autumn, Emma, Taylor, Cassidy, Adam, Josie, Anders, Reine Jo, Wylder, Aaiko, Kai, Cameron, and Corson; his brother, Norman A. Beckwith and his wife, Mona; brother-in-law, Robert Dayon; daughter-in-law, Pam Beckwith; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife, Janet, Bernard was predeceased by two sons, Nestor “Terry”, and Wayne Beckwith; two grandchildren, Dianna and Mark Beckwith; his brother, Kenwood Beckwith; and his sister, Joyce Dayon.
A graveside service will be held 11AM Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Shirley Cemetery, with Father Aaron Damboise officiating. After the burial, family and friends are invited to the Shirley Town Hall for refreshments and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Amedisys Foundation (Beacon Hospice), 289 State Street, Bangor, Maine 04401. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
