Dorothy Getchell

Obituary of Dorothy Getchell

South Thomaston - Dorothy Getchell, 79, surrounded by many of her loved ones, passed away in her own bed Thursday, July 19. 2018.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mark, in 2000 and her son, Barry, in 1975.

The daughter of Claude Thornley and Regina Pelchat, Dorothy was born in Exeter, Rhode Island and eventually moved to Dover-Foxcroft and attended high school at Foxcroft Academy. She later married Mark Getchell and the two were married for 46 years and had three beautiful children.

She and Mark would take many long snowmobile trips in the winter and also loved to dance, sing and play cards with friends. Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker and their house was a social hub as "Dot" often made large spreads of food and pies for close friends and the many hunters that frequented their house.

Later in life, after moving to South Thomaston, she found great joy in watching the exploits of her seven great-grandchildren and enjoyed shopping, seafood dinners, playing cards on her computer and the country music stylings of the likes of Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Randy Travis and Dolly Parton.

Dorothy, or Mimi, as she was known affectionately to many, is survived by her daughter and her husband, Linda and Warren Haskell, of South Thomaston; son and wife, Joseph and Debbie Getchell, of Ruckersville, VA; granddaughter and husband, Trisha and Jack Martin, of Warren; granddaughter, Amanda Haskell, and fiance, Mike Robinson, of Warren; grandson and wife, Mark and Jennifer Haskell, of Thomaston; granddaughter, Megan Getchell, of Virginia Beach, VA; grandson, Jesse Getchell, of Richmond, VA; and grandson, Andrew Getchell, of Ruckersville, VA, along with great-grandchildren Ryan, Ben, Jacob, Connor, Beckett, Austin and Lila; and special friend, Rene Simard, of Lisbon.

A private service will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Gray Cemetery in Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
