Obituary of Sarah D. Fahey
Greenville - Sarah D. Fahey, 104, passed away April 30, 2016, at Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Born November 27, 1911, in Greenville, she was the last survivor of eight children born to Ernest Linwood and Delia (Snowdale) Dean. Sarah was raised in Greenville Junction and graduated with the GHS Class of 1929. Sarah attended music school in Boston for training in classical piano and later graduated from Gilman School of Business in Bangor. She was a bookkeeper for her father at E.L. Dean [Lumber] Company in Greenville Junction for several years before moving to the Brunswick area where she and her husband lived and worked until their retirement to Florida. They returned every summer to their camp on Moosehead Lake. Sarah relocated to southern Maine for a number of years before returning to Greenville in 2011, the summer before her 100th birthday. Sarah received the Boston Post Cane in 2014, an honor awarded to the oldest resident in the community. She enjoyed playing piano, reading, playing cards, and was meticulously skilled at handiwork. Sarah cherished the monthly Sunday fellowship dinners at the Church of the Open Bible in Greenville.
Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Robert 'Bob' Fahey, and her two sons, Dean Cranston and Donal Fahey. She is survived by two grandchildren, Amanda Hopfensperger and Robert Fahey and three great grandchildren, all of Utah; several nieces and nephews including Dawn Anderson, Mary Holmes, and Jean Wortman, all of Greenville; numerous second, third, and fourth generation nieces and nephews including Melanie Breton of Greenville; and a special friend, Sandra Hawes of Lyman.
Private services for the family will be held at the family plot in Greenville Cemetery later this summer. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home, Greenville. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
