Gaelen and I and our sons, Scott and Tony and their families, will all miss Uncle Roddy so much. As a child, I looked forward to the arrival of the "hunting letter" that came first to Grammy Moore, and then was read by Aunt Mary and hand-carried among Daddy, Uncle Carroll and Grampy Moore to make sure all of us had a chance to keep up to date on this most adventurous of Moore family members.
Then, too, we enjoyed the photos from Alaska of our aunt and cousins Sharon, Kathy, Michael and Robby, who grew right along with our Maine cousins. It didn't seem possible we ever would meet them, but the experience of a lifetime happened when the family all drove down in 1968 for a wonderful summer visit.
As a retired newspaper reporter and editor and I appreciate more than ever that writing that Uncle Roddy did about his hunting and fishing exploits, about his family in Alaska,and about the early years of growing up in Maine before joining the Air Force.
What a treat it was when he came back to Maine and we were able to continue seeing the one who called our dad "Uncle Brother." His pioneer spirit enriched the Moore-Bennett Family in so many ways and I hope the cousins will stay in touch with us in many ways, including through me at roxanne.saucier@yahoo.com.
I look forward to his graveyard service as he joins the 6 generations of Bennetts buried on the hill at Elmwood Cemetery in Guilford on May 20.
