Shary, My deepest condolences. I got to know Howard from my years at Foxcroft Academy. Whether it was drying out brake pads, getting parts for a Timberjack skidder or converting a 6 volt tractor to 12 volts, Howard knew how to do it and what parts were needed with his way of an acknowledgement as "Okfine"

I have known Howard as a customer and a friend since the 70s. I think you could tell if Howard liked you because he would assign you a pet name. Not always complimentary. I will miss his dry sense of humor, shared even after he retired. He had tons of knowledge about the parts business, if you were smart enough to listen.
My best wishes to the entire family. I hate to lose a good friend.

The Auto parts world has lost a wealth of knowledge.Howard was walking parts catalog and could rattle off part numbers without ever looking in a catalog. He was a one of a kind nice man, and a true friend. May he rest easy now. Thinking of you and the girls Sherry, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

The world lost a good man Saturday. One of the most hard-working, generous, animal-loving, funny people I have ever known. I am blessed not only to have known him, but to be his daughter. There is so much I could say, so many memories flooding back right now including him helping a widow put her new windshield wipers on without being asked, assisting a broken down trucker after hours, lending a hand at a close friend or family farm after an already full work week and so much more....The next time you put in an honest day's work, chuckle at a well placed smart alec comment, care for your four legged friends, or lend a hand to someone in need, think of Dad & strive to do the same. He would love that. And thank you to all who are posting a memory or a kind word here or on BDN. It brings a much needed smile at a sad time.

Howard and his family are some of the nicest, welcoming, and hard working people you will ever meet. I first met Howard as a young man in the Auto Parts business. Howard, Shary, and David had "trained" many talented people before me, and they never complained about training a "new-be". Howard really taught me a lot about the business and how a business should be run. There were mistakes, complications, and "missed opportunities" while I worked with Howard- but he never got upset or frustrated. Instead, he would ask that I spend more time there and understand his business. Before I knew it, I had a place in Guilford and in Dover-Foxcroft! Howard, Shary, and David really took me in and treated me like I was part of the family! My most heart-felt condolences go to the whole family- he was truly a great man and will always be remembered. Thinking of all of you and here's to Howard and "green cats eyes"!

Howard was one of most favorite customers when I worked with corporate NAPA. Over the years, he and Shary become true friends. Howard was truly “one of a kind.” He was an honest, hardworking, intelligent store owner and businessman. I will always remember rebuilding his successful NAPA Auto Parts store after a devastating fire. He will be missed by many. R.I.P. my friend.
