Obituary of Carolyn J. Pettengill

Guilford – Carolyn J. Pettengill, 77, died March 24, 2020, at her home. She was born September 18, 1942, in Hartford, CT, the daughter of Raymond N. and Ruth I. (Thompson) Coffin. Carol had worked at Hathaway Shirt Company and Guilford Woolen Mill. She was also a beautician and had retired from the Charlotte White Center at age 70. Carol moved to North Monmouth in 1977, she sold Avon, was a member of the Monmouth Fish and Game Association, N Monmouth Fireman’s Auxiliary, and she road with the Blue Knights, earning her C.B. handle, “Raccoon”. She was a member of many quilting clubs and donated quilts to Project Linus. As a member of these clubs and selling Avon, she met a lot of lifetime friends, including Linda Corbin and her family. Quilting was one of Carol’s greatest passions; through this she met her wonderful friend, Pat Hewett. Pat and her husband, Victor, helped her find the Lord and this gave Carol comfort and peace during the last weeks of her life. Carol is survived by her daughter, Tracy Gray and her husband, Dana; a granddaughter, Sierra Taylor and her husband, Brian; and two great-grandsons, Kaden Rollins and Rhett Taylor. She also leaves five sisters, Patricia Blanchard and her husband, Gray, Sharon Bubb, Katharyn Cormier, Deborah Coffin, and Janice Drinkwater; and one brother, Raymond “Pete” Coffin. She was extremely fond of her cat, Ozzie. She was predeceased by her parents; granddaughters, Sheena and Shannon Reed; and a nephew, Jason Sawyer. Carol’s family would like to believe she is off to the races to watch her beloved race car driver, Dale Earnhardt. They also extend their thanks to Dr. Abdallah and Dr. Stout and her team, as well as the Beacon Hospice caretakers.. A celebration of life will be at a later date.
