Guilford, Maine and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - Mildred Maude Trafton Dunphey passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2020. She was born November 15, 1928, daughter of Velma (Priest) and Berlin Trafton. Mildred was 91 yrs old, widowed by Dr. Charles L. Dunphey with whom she was married for 45 years. Mildred was born in Guilford, Maine. She graduated from Guilford High School in 1946, a member of many Clubs. Her poem "Girl Graduate" was published in the 1946 Guilford High School Rostrum. She lived in Illinois while her husband was studying dentistry, and then moved back to Guilford where they operated a dentistry business for many years. They travelled each year to another home in Mexico for several years until Charles' passing. Mildred continued her travels to Cabo San Lucas where she was a resident for 35 years and still remained a U.S. citizen. She taught English in Mexico at the Sarahuaro Foundation and at her home. She was a founder, past secretary, and lifetime member of the Guilford Historical Society, contributing many hours of research and documentation. Her sister, Marion, was a past president and secretary. Both were instrumental in Veterans Memorial Exhibits. The exhibits include their brother, Wilbur, a brave and decorated soldier during WWII, who lost his life in 1945 in Iwo Jima. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and siblings Carroll, Clair, Marion, Berlin and Wilbur. She is survived by a special son, Sammy Lopez; very dear friend, Marilyn Plank; several cousins, nieces, nephews; and many close friends. Sammy came into Mildred's life at the age of four. Mildred and Sammy travelled together to the U.S., Canada, and London. They travelled from Cabo San Lucas to Guilford, Maine each summer to spend time with family and friends. A Celebration of Life in her honor was held at her home in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on Saturday, February 29, 2020. A Celebration of Life is being planned for July in Guilford and a burial beside her husband in the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo.
