I knew Ed when we both worked for the Woodlands Department at GNP. Ed was a fine gentleman.

My condolences to the family on Ed's passing. I had the pleasure to know Ed through working as a scaler for GNP in the mid to late seventies. I was one of the last scalers at the Scott Brook camp. I ran into Ed years later at a Grand Lodge session of Maine Masons and he mentioned that he had written the book"The Way We Were" detailing the history of the Scott Brook logging camp. A few days later, I received a copy signed by Ed. It is one of my prized possessions. A few years ago, we invited Ed and his friend Bob Landry to come to our Masonic lodge in Ashland for a presentation on the building of GNP's Golden Road. There was a large audience and Ed held court answering the several questions and interjected personal stories from his years at GNP. It was a wonderful night. Ed was a very sincere, soft spoken man and I was proud to know him as a friend and brother Mason.

As a young child, my sister Jan, once said to him, "Mr. Blodgett, there's a fly in your drink", to which he gently replied, "Don't worry, Jan, he won't drink much." This epitomizes my whole life with Mr. Blodgett.....kind, gentle, always a twinkle in his eye, just waiting for the next story to tell. He was so totally devoted to Jean, his family, the life at Sebec Lake. He and Jean were best friends to my parents... always a man to respect and admire. My heart goes out to his family.
