Lawrence Lynch Jr.

Obituary of Lawrence C. Lynch Jr.

Rockland and Guilford – Lawrence C. Lynch Jr., 82, passed away peacefully May 18, 2020, at the Knox Center, Rockland. He was born September 28, 1937, in Bangor, the son of Norma (Eames) and Lawrence Lynch Sr. Larry attended Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High in 1956. Shortly after graduation Larry traveled to Florida where he met his future wife ‘Monie’ (Simone Hayden), who was also from Maine (Guilford). Although following their marriage they spent their lives in Maine, in later years they returned to Florida annually and enjoyed many winters there as “snowbirds”. Larry loved the “wild blue yonder” and joined the Air National Guard early in his life, where he explored flying machines and simultaneously developed a love for SCUBA. His squadron was “called up” during the Berlin Crisis and he left his family to serve a tour of duty in France. Upon his return to the “States” he and his young family moved to Guilford where they restored “the farm” and worked the land. Larry traveled around the state working on a sundry of projects from building runways, damns, paper mills, housing for the aged, water treatment plants, to heading up restoration crews for famous buildings. Upon graduation of their children from high school Larry and Monie moved to Rockland often summering on Swans Island where Larry was known for excellence as a carpenter and all around craftsman. Because of his extensive travel in Maine, his love of the woods and coast, and his gift as a “story teller” it was impossible to mention a Maine location for which Larry did not have a tale. Many of these he shared with the caring staff of the Knox Center who provided such wonderful care during the final months of his life. Larry was predeceased by his wife, Simone (Hayden) Lynch; his parents; his son, Lonnie Lynch; and his sister, Bonita Hodgins and her husband, Edwin. He is survived by his daughter, Lori Lundin of Esh Winning, England; brother, Jerry Lynch and his wife, Ann, of Madison; grandchildren, Brian Lynch, Kirk Lynch and wife Laura, Kevin Lynch, and Jeremy Lundin and wife Chelsey; two great grandchildren, Eben Lynch and Emily Lynch; daughter-in-law, Kim Lynch; close friend, Richard Libby and wife, Mary, of Rockland; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A graveside service with military honors will be held on a later date at the family lot in the Elmwood Cemetery, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Activities Fund c/o The Knox Center, 6 Winter Street, Rockland, Maine. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
