Obituary of Joanne L. Ames

Sebec - Joanne L. Shorey Ames, my wife of more than sixty years, passed away on July 15, 2020, at our home. She was born in Atkinson, Maine on August 31, 1941 to the late Lewis and Marjorie Shorey. She is survived by her three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Silas "Chuck" Ames and his wife Vicki, Douglas and his wife, Jane, and Richard and his companion, Rona. She also opened her home up to Mitchell Forest of Florida whom she thought of as her fourth son. She had three sisters, Jean Emery and her companion, Darrell Nelson, of Deland, FL, Deborah Parker of Dover-Foxcroft and the late Marjorie Damon. She is also survived by five grandchildren and their families, Rebecca Burgess and her husband, John and their son, Reid; Ashley Ames-Anderson and her husband, Andre, and their children, Abel, Adley and Aubrey; Leandra Ames and her fiancée, Hunter Ludwig; Mallory Ames; and Katie Perkins and her husband, Alan, and their children, Macee, Alfred and Harley. Joanne will be remembered as a loving wife to Bud, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She looked forward to her visits to the casino with Bud and "always winning". Her favorite hobbies were quilting, going to camp at Jo Mary with her grandchildren, and baking. The granddaughters will always remember going to the Jo Mary camp and the special shopping trips to Millinocket with Gram. Many also will remember Joanne as the owner of the Sebec Village Store and running the Post Office in the Town of Sebec. The family wants to give special thanks to Richard and Rona who provided invaluable care to Joanne for the many months during her illness. Thank you for letting Mom stay at home where she wanted to be during her final days. The family will hold a celebration of life cookout for Joanne on Saturday, July 25, 2020, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at Doug and Jane's home on Sebec Lake. Remember the life of Joanne by bringing a picture or document a memory to share on this day of remembrance. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
