Dear Betty and family, I just saw that your beloved Mel has passed away. I worked with Mel for more than 5 years at Charleston Correctional Facility from 89-94. I knew Mel to be a gentleman, kind, competent and totally devoted to trees - always teaching others about them. One day, I had the privilege of touring his home forest where he explained with pride what he and family had accomplished. It was a memorable day and I enjoyed meeting Betty and spending time with my friend, Mel. Please accept my condolences for your great loss. Betty Ryder
