Obituary of Thane Love Clifford
Parkman – Thane "Dusty" Clifford, Jr., passed away January 10, 2021, at Dexter Health Care due to complications of Covid-19. He always said, "I'm gonna live to be 100”, and he almost achieved this goal! He was born June 27, 1923, in Pittsfield, the son of Thane L. Sr. and Maude (Downs) Clifford. Dusty served in the U.S. Marine Corp Sixth Division and fought in the South Pacific during WWII. After being honorably discharged, he returned home to marry the “love of his life” Geneva Kimball in 1946. They were happily married for 66 years until her death in 2012. Dusty worked for the State of Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department as a fish culturist for 30 years, retiring as a hatchery foreman in Grand Lake Stream. In 1985, he moved back to Parkman where he eventually received the “golden cane” for being the oldest citizen. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, trapping (earlier in life with his father-in-law, Howard Kimball), fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and 4 wheeling. Dusty always had a beautiful vegetable garden and enjoyed canning the vegetables. He taught his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the importance of gun safety and how to shoot through many hours of target practice. Dusty was extremely patriotic and always flew the American and the Marine Corps flags at his home. He appreciated visitors and always greeted people with a big smile and hug or hand shake. Dusty had a saying that he passed on to many people. "Don't work your whole life and save everything to enjoy all the things that only the young can enjoy!"
Thane is survived by two children, Ronald Clifford and his wife, Ann, of West Enfield and Parkman, and Suzanne Corbett and her husband, Arthur, of Guilford; two grandchildren, Heather Andrews and her husband, Shawn, of Prosper, TX, and Scott Brokaw and his wife, Liz, of Pembroke, NH; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Andrews and his significant other, Laura Duval, of Austin, TX, Keelan and Keira Andrews of Prosper, TX, and River Brokaw of Pembroke, NH; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Geneva (Kimball) Clifford; an infant son, Russell; and two sisters, Genevieve Weeks Page and Doris Tarr.
A graveside memorial service celebrating both Thane and Geneva’s lives will be held in the summer at the family lot in Pingree Center Cemetery, Parkman. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
