Judy was indeed a very bright light with an infectious smile and a warm heart. Growing up in the Methodist church, the entire Collins family always sat in the pew in front of our family. Upon arrival we would be received with smiles, exchanges of words, maybe a joke from her Dad and hands held in an expression of sentiment. Our families sang and prayed through the years.
Remembering when she married Pat and the family joy when Amy came into the world. They were a joyous
family and Judy carried on the integrity of the Collins family, the laughter and the dedication to others.
Her absence will be a strong one. However, her love and how she made a difference to others will live on.
My condolences to Pat and her beloved daughter Amy.

Judy was truly one of a kind. She was without a doubt one of the most caring and genuine individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. My son was one of the lucky students to have her two years in a row when “looping” was a thing. When he learned of her death, he phoned to tell me that one of his favorite women had passed away. I’m sure there are many people that would say the same thing. She was loved by all that knew her.
Condolences to Pat and Amy. You were blessed to have her in your lives.

I remember being jealous of all my friends I made when I started at Morton Ave in 2nd grade. They always talked about the awesome Mrs. Leighton and felt like I really missed out. I was fortuned to have Mr. Leighton a couple of years later as my 5th grade teacher at Mayo St School and I was better for it. Judy's love and light obviously was a huge part of who he was and helped make my childhood in our small town that much better.
Mr Leighton and Amy, I am so sorry for your loss.

Judy was part of my church family as far back as I can recall. Her spirit and kindness was the most genuine I have ever encountered in my life. I am grateful for having her presence in my life, and that of my children too. This community was surely blessed with her presence and she will be missed greatly. My deepest condolences to her family, and friends. Such a lovely lady ❤️

There simply are not enough words to express the difference Judy "Mrs. Leighton" made with not only the children she had as students, but also in her entire community. Everyone loved Judy. She was simply magical with how she made people feel, she made everyone feel so loved and special. She was truly one of God's guardian angels.
Amy and Pat, you were blessed to have her as your family, and she was blessed to have you. She cherished you both with all of her heart.
Judy was very deeply loved, and her life molded so many others with her kindness. We are all better people because of the love and kindness that she nurtured and spread.
Rest in peace Judy, you are going to be missed beyond measure.
With love,
The McDermott Family

Pat and Amy, I am so sorry for your immense loss. Judy was certainly one of a kind. For the many years I enjoyed teaching first grade with Judy, she was both a wonderful colleague and friend. She certainly touched and made a difference in the lives of many children in our community over the years. Judy had amazing patience and went above and beyond her normal school hours to help a child in need of that little extra time to gain understanding. She lived, loved and surely made a difference. I’d like to think of Judy in Heaven teaching patriotism, leading flag salutes and playing the piano with an audience of happy singing children. Play on my friend.

I was saddened to learn of Judy’s passing. Her parents, Marion and Pat, were friends of my parents. That meant “the kids” spent time together with them on the golf course or finding our own activities while our parents played bridge. We spent countless hours together in our youth, resulting in many warm and happy memories. Years later l ran into Judy while we were taking a graduate course together at UMO. It was so lovely to see a familiar and friendly face and we enjoyed our time together. Pat, Amy and Mike...you have been on my mind since l heard the news. I hope that each day will be a bit brighter and that your circle of family and friends brings you consolation and comfort.

Judy was so fun and kind to me as a new teacher when I started teaching Art in Dover-Foxcroft. Then I just learned to join in her fun. It was just a short time ago that we meet up in the store and compared our retirements and (non) aging likes, looks and woes. Too young to leave us all. My thoughts and prayers are with you Pat and the entire family.

Mrs Leighton is a name spoken in my home in many many stories. She had all my children and they will tell you she was the best teacher they ever had. She made sure to always work with them to their ability. And she always found their strengths. An amazing teacher, an amazing person. She always had a hug for my girls when they went into the store. She always asked about them when they went to college. She will be sadly missed and never forgotten.

I’m so very sorry to hear of Judy’s passing. She was such a wonderful woman. Like so many others I was fortunate to have had her as my First Grade teacher, part of her first class at Morton Avenue. Judy was so important to me in my formative years, encouraging me as a student and valuing me as a person. In adulthood I knew her through the Eastern Star and finally as a friendly face at Irving’s. She was constant as a ray of light, a truly good person, a kind and confident woman in all of her roles all of her life. We were all better for having known her. God Bless you, Judy. My condolences to your family.

I was fortunate to have Mrs.Leighton for both 1st and 2nd grade when she moved up in classes. Even the few trips back home to Dover I’d stop at the gas station and she’d remember me and ask about my life. Such a huge fixture in the community for all the students she has taught. There’s always that teacher or two who you’ll remember forever and I was fortunate to have Mrs.Leighton as mine.
