Obituary of Gerald D. Hamilton
Dover-Foxcroft - Gerald Donne Hamilton, 87, passed away May 2, 2021, at Hibbard Nursing Home. He was born March 9, 1934, in Greenville Jct., the son of Wallace Hamilton and Marion (Redmond) Hamilton. He grew up in Greenville and spent several years in Freeport with family during World War II. Gerald attended Husson College where he met his future wife, Patricia Anne McDowell, and later graduated from Farmington State Teachers College. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, at Ladd Air Force Base where he was a jet engine mechanic.
Gerald was a teacher at Moscow School and also served as school principal. While living in Bingham he started working in an antique shop for Maurice Alkins where he got the “antique bug”. He started a shop in his grandfather’s auto garage in Greenville where he operated a shop for 50 plus years simply called Gerald Hamilton Antiques.
He was a “snow bird” and spent most winters in Weeki Wachee, Florida, with his companion, Carolyn Hawes, who predeceased him in 2016.
He was also predeceased by his wife, Patricia, in 1992.
He is survived by two children, daughter, Cynthia Hamilton of Kennebunk and her fiancé, Rusty Farrin; and son, Nathan Hamilton, Professor of Archeology at USM, and his wife, Cyndi Thayer, geologist, of Gorham.
At his request, there will be no service and he will be buried in Greenville. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Moosehead Marine Museum, PO Box 1151, Greenville, ME 04441.
