Elsie Watters

Obituary of Elsie F. Watters

Bowerbank - Elsie Fanny Nason Watters was born on September 28, 1933 and made her way to Heaven on July 15, 2022. Elsie was the daughter of Albert Lee Nason and Stella Cuthbertson Nason. She was born in Barnard and grew up in her beloved Sebec Village. As a young woman, Elsie was a singer who was featured on local radio stations. She was always shy when asked about this time of her life but her talent shined. She also carried mail in the area. In 1954, she married Norman Watters of Brownville. Elsie’s greatest passion was her family and she could often be heard, with pride in her voice, talking about her children and grandchildren. Elsie and Norman’s lives revolved around Sebec Lake and neither of them really cared to venture far from there. For many years, they lived in the center of Sebec Village in the house by the bridge where they raised their three children. From there, they moved up the lake to claim Bear Point, where they built a gorgeous log cabin and developed a marina and campground so that many could share in the beauty of Sebec Lake. Over the years, this has become a local favorite spot that has added more campsites, a store, a restaurant, and special events. Elsie and Norman were part of the founding group that set up Big Bear Snowmobile Club and they spent lots of time and effort supporting the club, the events, and the Reading Room Building in Sebec Village. Elsie loved bright and vibrant colors and could often be seen sprucing up her furniture or the interior of her home with bright pastel colors. She was a knowledgeable and shrewd antique dealer and loved to buy quality antiques to decorate her home and to also sell to others. For many years, Elsie operated an antique store in the old T. Wyman store in Sebec Village, with her friend Marie Nicholson and also an antique shop at Sebec Four Corners. She loved local history and anything to do with Sebec. Elsie was a gifted quilter and crafter and if you visited her porch at the lake, you probably wondered how she could make so many beautiful things! She liked to keep busy and share her gifts with others. Elsie was the “go to” person for Nason family history and loved to tell stories about her mother, father, and siblings. Her home was often the site of many family reunions where she loved to visit with her brothers, sisters and their families. A faithful Christian and American, Elsie was not afraid to share a prayer or belief with others. Her faith was true and strong. In her later years, Elsie would be seen tending her many flower beds when she took a break from her crafts or entertaining guests on her porch at Sebec Lake. She knew almost everyone and loved to see people as they returned each summer to the campground. She often said there was no place on Earth more beautiful than Sebec Lake. When others were asked about Elsie, they often said she was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Norman, in 2010, and all of her siblings. Elsie leaves her three children, Daniel Watters and his wife, Lynnette, of Sebec and Brunswick, Susan Watters Morris, and Peter Watters, both of Bowerbank. She leaves five grandchildren – Melissa, Jillian, Daniel, Jesse, and Dillon and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in September. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to The Sebec Reading Room in care of Joan Baird, 87 Sunset Ridge, Sebec, Maine 04481 Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home of Dover Foxcroft.
