I'm am deeply saddened by Lou's passing. We had stayed in touch over the years.I'm from the Lincoln branch of the Stevens family and Lou shared the family background with me. I was born in 1929 and was a year older than Lou who was a second cousin.
I didn't get to Dover until after World War II. Then I was in the service and graduated from the University of Maine. After that I pursued a career in Human Resources in Connecticut, married and my wife and I raised our four children in Connecticut.
Through all the years there always was a Christmas letter sharing family news and I will miss hearing from Lou with news of the Dover-Foxcroft branch of the Stevens family. My condolences to all of Lou's family.

Lou was always picking flowers from his garden and dropping them off to us all, another nice thing we will miss that you always did. You will be so missed Lou, we all love you.

I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Stevens had passed. He was the best teacher that I have had and I enjoyed English literature and the spin he put on it. His extensive travel added to inspire us in our lives. I saw him at a class reunion a few years ago and told him this and he said,"oh my". I thought humble as ever. I have attempted to follow his advice and after 39 years in education I am still trying. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Lou was quite an interesting man. He was creative in many ways. Several years ago, he got into cross-stitching and borrowed some of my cross-stitch patterns. His stitchery always came out perfect. We had many chats over the years about his various projects. My sincere condolences go out to his family. He will be missed in our little town.

To the Stevens family:
I am deeply saddened to read of Louis' passing. He was a truly dear friend. Louis and I go back a long way. We were honored to have the friendship of the late Ora Evans (publisher-editor of the Piscataquis Observer) and we both worked as editors of that publication for a number of years. He was a natural Dover-Foxcroft historian in every sense of the word. His legacy lives on in the books he wrote on the history of the town and Foxcroft Academy sports. He was so humbled and appreciative when he was deservedly named to FA's Sports Hall of Fame. All of us who knew him, as well as the Shiretown, have lost a great man while heaven has gained another angel.
My sincere sympathy goes out to his family. Marilyn Bennett

Uncle Lou Stevens , You will greatly be missed. Lou always took the time to fill me in on family history and those he loved so dearly. He was a great inspiration in my life of showing me love and never judging others. You will always hold a special place in my heart and soul. I will always treasure all the special moments that you took the time to share. Bringing me flowers at my salon and plants from your garden. One of the most special moments for me is when Uncle Lou was given the gift of a statue that brought him to tears and left him speechless. What a special day and moment that was, for we all know Uncle Lou was never at a loss for words. Angels took you home and an Angel you are. Rest in Peace you great man. I will always love you and I will Never forget you my special friend.

Lou attended Boston University with my dad, George Baran. He knew my parents before they were married, and I am sure that he was first introduced to me and each of my five siblings by phone, just hours after our birth. In so many ways, he was an honorary member of our family. I know he referred to us as his "NJ Family" and while he probably thought it was an honor for him to be included in our family, the honor was ours. Lou celebrated so many wonderful special events with us . . . from vacationing with him in Dover-Foxcroft when we were young, to bringing our own children to Dover-Foxcroft; from visiting us in New Jersey, to visiting me when I lived in Germany . . . we always looked forward to his arrival. Lou loved so many things that I couldn't even begin to imagine what he'd answer if asked what his favorite pastime was. I know his love of reading, needlework, sports and gardening stand out most in my mind though. Lou and I always corresponded through letters . . . he loved hearing about the family and he loved pictures even more. I'll miss those letters most. I cherish the time we had with him and I extend my deepest sympathy to his friends and family. Linda Baran Daffron
