Obituary of Louis E. Stevens

Dover-Foxcroft – Louis E. Stevens, 86, passed away October 20, 2016, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. He was born July 5, 1930, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Charles and Marion (Trundy) Stevens. A graduate of Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1949, and Boston University, 1953, Lou served with the US Army for two years. He worked at the Piscataquis Observer for 12 years, and then taught for 18 years, including 14 years at Milo High School. After retiring from teaching he returned to the Observer, where he enjoyed writing a weekly column and covering local sports. He could often be seen striding up and down the sidelines of Foxcroft Academy football games, taking pictures, and making notes about plays and players. A proud moment for him was his induction into the Foxcroft Academy Sports Hall of Fame. He was author of several books, including a two volume “200 Years of Dover-Foxcroft History”, “Foxcroft Academy’s Five Undefeated Football Teams”, “ 100 Years of Foxcroft Academy Football”, and “Booming! Dover and Foxcroft from 1881 -1892”. In later years he contributed to the Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society’s newsletter. Lou always had in interesting story to tell about Dover-Foxcroft and the families who lived there. He is survived by a brother, Robert Stevens and his wife, Dolores, of South Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to call from 12 noon until time of funeral service at 1pm Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Lou’s nephew, Pastor Mark Stevens, officiating. A time of fellowship and sharing will be held at the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church after the service. Burial will be in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery.
