Obituary of Charles E. Davis

Shirley – Charles E. Davis, 79, went to be with his lord and savior on October 20, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 5, 1937, in Rumford, the son of Theodore R. and Eleanor M. (Cole) Davis. Charlie graduated from Stephens High School, Rumford, Class of 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1956 and worked as a forester with the Oxford Paper Co. before joining the IF&W as a Maine Game Warden in 1962. Charlie was an original member of the Maine Warden Service Search & Rescue and Dive Team in 1964. He was named Warden of the Year in 1981 where he was described as “steady, dependable, and dedicated,” and he was named Legendary Warden in 2002. In retirement, he worked as a caretaker for several Moosehead area camps. Charlie was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, a dedicated friend and a lover of the Maine woods. Charlie was a longtime member of the Church of the Open Bible in Greenville, and his faith sustained him through his illness. His greatest joy was sharing his experiences and knowledge with everyone who crossed his path, but especially his grandchildren. Charlie was predeceased by his first wife, Carmen (Carignan) Davis; daughter, Tamara Davis Schreck; grandson, Charles Schreck; and brother, Robert Davis. Charlie is survived by his wife, Vera Davis; son, David and his wife, Christine; daughter, Beth Gardiner and husband, Michael; daughter, Dawna Blackstone and husband, Jon; son, Andrew and wife, Shannon; step-daughter, Stephanie Arey and husband, Christopher; step-son, Joseph Coles and partner, Nikki Nye; and 11 grandchildren, Jessica and husband Garreth; Taylor; Ethan and wife, Kara; Christopher, Ian, Wyatt, Jacob, Cole, Hope, Troy and Benjamin.
