Obituary of Terrence H. Estes

Sebec and Winslow - Terry (as everyone knew him) went peacefully with the Lord on April 8th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 31, 1942, in Waterville, the son of Herman and Thelma (Hapworth) Estes. Terry graduated from Winslow high school in 1959 and attended for 2 years at SMVTI of Portland in the construction building. He built many houses in the Winslow/China area, owning EEE enterprise in the 70’s. He was an enthusiastic photographer, and traveler. Terry retired from the Maine Department of Transportation after 33 years. One of his favorite times, during his employment, was working on the Interstate 95 corridor from York to Houlton; anyone on a north bound hunting trip was sure to hear the stories. Terry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was very active in IF&W bowhunter’s safety programs, the Maine Bow Hunters Association , on the board of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and a lifetime member. He was proud of being the only Maine Pope & Young scorer, achieving this by taking 3 of the 5 big game with bow. Hunting in 49 states and all of the Canadian provinces, his favorite trips were with pack mules through the Yukon and British Columbia mountains. Brown sugar on his oatmeal in 1990 began his ultimate pursuit and accomplishment. Terry met and married his best friend, Berta. In 32 years of marriage Terry and Berta hunted, fished, camped, explored, finally building their cabin in the woods of Sebec, Maine. Terry loved life, family, laughter, and late night chats. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Herman Perry and Thelma Elizabeth and his brother, Dwayne Estes. He is survived by his wife, Berta M. Estes; daughter, Nicole Chapko and husband, Josh, of Arkansas; granddaughters, Adelyn and Emelia Chapko; his adoptive daughter, Jen Coolidge and grandson, Ryan Coolidge of Vermont; sisters, Sharon Henson of Texas, and Sheryl Reid and husband, David Reid, of Kentucky; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; and his bestest bud, great-great nephew, Dean Donnell of Monmouth. A special thanks to our niece, Ivy Donnell-Cunliffe, of Monmouth for all her help. “THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS” In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Pope and Young youth programs (507-867-4114)
